Abstract (EN)

Brake noise and vibration, which is caused by the friction on the system, has been a problem since the creation of the brake system. Even though these problems do not influence human life directly, many researches are made to obtain more quiet and balanced systems. However, it has not been found a concrete solution yet because of the complex dynamical characteristics of brake systems. The main goal of this thesis is to investigate the groan problem. Vehicle brake groan is a mid-frequency, friction-induced forced vibration problem. Brake groan problem occurs at very low speeds of brake systems, and undesired vibrations emerge at mid- frequency band such as 100-500 Hz. This project includes formulation, design, examination and evaluation to simulate brake groan problem. The major source mechanism to this problem is known as stick-slip vibrations that are led by several nonlinear effects, and the nonlinear characteristics of friction coefficient are believed to be the major source.
