The effect of hemodialysis on quality of life in the ELDERLY

Chronic renal failure becomes a major problem all over the world. It is associated with persistent morbidity and mortality as well as lower quality of life in patients compared to the entire population. The study aims to assess the quality of life of patients with respect to chronic renal failure undergoing dialysis and to know the relationship between patients' quality of life and their demographic and clinical data. A cross-sectional descriptive design study was conducted with non-probability (objective) sampling of (200) CRF patients in Al-Sadr Medical City / Hemodialysis Unit in Al-Najaf City from March 26 to September 7. , 2022. The researcher analyzed the data through the use of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis procedures. The results of the study showed that the public domain was an average quality of life, with low quality of life in the physical domain and the level of independence, but there is a moderate quality of life in the environmental, psychological and spiritual domains, while the social domain was high. quality of life. The study concluded that the majority of chronic renal failure patients undergoing dialysis treatment enjoy a high quality of life in the social sphere. Most cases of chronic renal failure show that patients who undergo dialysis responses have a low level of independence and physical scope. There is also a strong relationship between the quality of life and (gender, education level, marital status, and occupational status prior to illness) for patients with chronic renal failure undergoing dialysis. The study recommends that new nurses assigned to the dialysis unit be involved in training courses related to dialysis procedures and medications, how to deal comprehensively with CRF patients and their families, and provide CRF patients undergoing HD with necessary flyers, posters and brochures including instructions containing information.
