Vocabulary elements in the works of Yusuf Atılgan

Language represents a nation's culture, lifestyles, beliefs, material elements, and spiritual qualities and carries them to the future. Language acts as a communication tool from generation to generation and therefore has a crucial function. The essential element that ensures language transfer from generation to generation is words. All the words, phrases, and stereotypes in the language are the repertoire that contains the memory of the culture. Vocabulary does not only cover words. It also covers phrases and conventional words. Reduplications, idioms, proverbs, slang words, vulgar words, swear words, relationship words, terms, filler words, and more are part of the vocabulary. In this study, the vocabulary elements in the works of the author were examined to determine the vocabulary of Yusuf Atılgan and emphasize the sensitivity in his use of Turkish. Vocabulary elements in the works of Yusuf Atılgan, one of the pioneers of modern narrative in Turkish literature, named Aylak Adam, Anayurt Oteli, Canistan, and Bütün Öyküleri, have been determined. Vocabulary elements were determined in the context of reduplications, idioms, proverbs, slang words, relationship words, filler words, swearwords, and vulgar words. The vocabulary was tried to be revealed by examining them in detail. In the introduction part of the study, information about Yusuf Atılgan's life, literary personality, works, and vocabulary are given. In the second part of the study, the vocabulary elements in the author's works were determined and classified. These elements were explained with the help of examples. In the last part, the vocabulary of the works is compared. The obtained information is explained in the conclusion part.
