Comparison of the anxiety levels, the stress levels following the negative life event and the caregiving loads between the relatives of the patients who applied to the health comitee with the mandatory hospitalization verdict and the relatives of the patients without the mandatory hospitalization verdict

The aim of this study is to determine the anxiety levels and stress levels following the hospitalization and to evaluate the caregiving burden of the first-degree relatives of the individuals who applied to the health committee with compulsory hospitalization, and to compare them with the relatives of the patients who were hospitalized voluntarily. Relatives of 100 patients who were given the decision of compulsory hospitalization by Samsun Mental Health and Diseases Hospital's Health Comitee and relatives of 93 patients whose voluntary hospitalization was deemed appropriate were included in the study, and various scales measuring anxiety, stress caused by negative experience and caregiving burden were applied to the participants. Before the scales were administered to the participants, the content of the study and the scales to be applied were explained, and a written consent form was obtained. Data were collected and analyzed using the Sociodemographic and Clinical Data Form, as well as the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the Impact of Events Scale (IES-R), and the Caregiver Burden Scale (CB). According to the results, the state and trait anxiety levels, the levels of negative effects due to the hospitalization event, and the caregiving burden level were found higher in the relatives of the patients who were given the decision for compulsory hospitalization compared to the relatives of the patients who were given the decision for voluntary hospitalization.
