Gelecek için Fauxssiller: Plastik atık üzerine cyanotype dışavurumlar
This thesis focuses on the increasing plastic waste problem in the marine environment and it tries to create an artistic reflection with the Cyanotype photographic technique in order to create a body of work that highlights the relationship between found Plastic Objects and Cyanotype Photographs. The project conceptualizes the plastics as the fossils of the future since the material is highly durable and much resistant than the organic components in the marine environment. The conceptualization of these "fauxssilles" sounds like fossils, focuses on the plastics and photographic series being "faux"; meaning "fake" and "false". The Cyanotype as one of the earliest photographic techniques has been used for this series with a reference to the first photographic book by Anna Atkins, and this alternative photographic process has been selected as the Cyan - Prussian blue of Cyanotype technique has a reference to the marine environment and the chemistry (plasticity) of cyanotype prints are as durable as the content of the images of the plastics. The research focuses on the plastic waste problem and examines key artworks, in addition to the research on the theoretical framework in photography theory, focusing on permanence, memory and the evidence aspects of photography. The experimentation process uses photograms and the final implementation is a series of 14 photographs. The photographed objects were selected according to the Ocean Conservancy 2017 report, following the top 10 found item on ocean shores. Keywords: Alternative Photography, Cyanotype, Fossil, Photogram, Plastic Waste
Kusurlu aile fotoğrafları: Algoritmanın tanımladığı mükemmel fotoğrafın dışarıda bıraktığı hatalar
The subject matter of this study is defining and classifying "errors" left out from the algorithmic definition of "perfect photograph" in visual technologies and making understandable their relation with the developments in tools. New features that promote "perfect photographs" are added to cameras and applications and then they start to shape the perceptions. At this point, how the "perfect photograph" is defined is very important because it is very subjective topic varying from person to person and over time. The categorization is made according to algorithms used in digital cameras, cellphone cameras and applications. They are technical errors, timing errors and non-smile errors. The applications, the modes of cameras are exemplified and the predetermined standards of them are explained in this study. The introduction of advances in the field of image technology starts to change the standards in family photography. As a part of vernacular photographs, the family album takes its share from the effects of algorithms in cameras and applications. With the strong relation to memory, the elimination of errors in family albums has important meaning and results. As a practical side of the thesis, "Failed" is an interactive installation composed of family photographs. For the celebration of imperfections in family albums, an interactive and participative approach is preferred. All these "imperfections" in family albums that we could keep give me an inspiration to pursue the errors definition by algorithms.
İlk bakışta: Transmedya deneyimi ile alternatif bir gerçeklik oyunu yaratmak
When images come together, the viewer starts to read a story according to their own perceptions. The actual motivation of the storyteller is to let the viewer create a story based on their own ongoing biases, then to instill an unexpected perspective to make them retrospectively evaluate the entire storyline they had created. Using the transmedia storytelling method makes the viewer feel immersed in the story so that they can reinforce the image of the story in their mind. That is why I am trying to find out: "How can we effectively make the audience an active part of the project and create a common ground, by using Transmedia Storytelling?" This thesis will support the alternate reality game that I have formed via transmedia storytelling named "At First Sight". The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of the project "At First Sight", which is an alternate reality game developed through transmedia storytelling in the frame of this thesis. This thesis introduces the works of the artist group called "Blast Theory" and analyzes the relationship between these works and the "At First Sight" project. In this sense, "Play the Life, Live the Game" and "Confession" projects, which were realized by using the alternate reality game and interactive game installation, were also included in the scope of the thesis in addition to "At First Sight". In this context, the process and development of the projects examined are explained within the framework of supported theories and audience feedback.
Lignum Vitae: Sı̇ber alan ve sonı̇k sanat ı̇le etkı̇leşı̇mlı̇ organı̇zma tasarımı
This thesis aims to investigate the nature of artworks created in the scope of cyberspace and sonic art in the analysis of the case artwork Lignum Vitae, a multimedia artwork designed to be conducted in gallery space through sonic interactivity. In light of Moholy-Nagy's Theater of Totality (Moholy-Nagy, 1924), the depiction of artwork as organism is closely observed and represented through the multi-disciplinary aspects of Lignum Vitae, along which the responsiveness of the artwork towards human interaction is explored.
Gözü insanlaştırma ötesi: Makine sanatı ile dağıtılmış bakış yaratmak
This thesis explores the adaptation of distributed cognition theory to the concept of distributed gaze between the artwork and the viewer, through machine art. This mechanical mixed media eye sculpture displays the probability of sharing the gazing agency between the human and the non-human actor. This project is not merely representing the eye but rather post-humanizing it, arguing that this recreation of the human organ will present the viewer with a new paradigm that puts both parties in a proactive position. Beyond the technological materiality's implication, without disconnecting with the hardware component, the human eye meets with its muse, the human.
1-GO 1-E: Karma medya heykelde süresel estetiğin gelişimi
This thesis investigates the development of a technique for the depiction of motion in painting through mixed media sculpture. Utilizing stacked glass layers as the spatial medium, 1-Go 1-E conceptualizes the technique utilized in the creation of barrier grid animations to be used in painting. Examining the concept of movement through the composite of Henri Bergson's conception of qualitative and quantitative multiplicities, this thesis merges both to create a workflow for the creation of stacked glass mixed media sculptures.
Monitör: Saat kulesini tekrar düşlemek biçim, zincir reaksiyonu ve zaman üzerine bir sanatçı araştırması
Monitor is a re-imagination of a clock tower, which re-conceptualizes the passing of time in a way that all moving elements inside the city outdoors become the units of the timekeeping activity. Abandoning the conventional approaches that frame time as a homogeneous entity, I make use of Bergson's description of dura, and rethink the so-called homogeneity rather as a heterogeneous structure composed of distinct durations that are constantly intersecting with each other, and, produce infinite amount of arbitrary arrangements. This thesis offers a concept of an urban media sculpture that mirrors the movement of the people in outdoor settings, by collecting the real-time data from public monitoring systems. In doing so, the theory and the practice became intricate which makes the main focus of this thesis principally to celebrate the process of artistic research.
Komedyen podcast yayıncılarının podcast ortamı üzerinden komedi sahnesini değiştirmesi
The particular aim of the current thesis is to shed light on the liberating nature of podcasts as an innovative medium, and its effect on the comedy scene. Ultimately, it is suggested that podcasting is an emerging form of new media that shape the comedy scene, through exemplifying the impact of comedian podcasters on the new and niche audiences. In this thesis, the social and technological impacts of comedian podcasts will be studied by examining the emerging relationship between podcasts and other forms of new media through literature review and case study. The particular focus of the paper is examined in relation to the career of Joe Rogan, the host of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. Through this examination, it is discussed how new generation comedian podcasters are challenging the conventional understanding of corporate-managed media with independent, self‑produced and accessible broadcasts. It is further argued that the authenticity and the wide array of topics offered by these podcasters allow for a greater impact that major networks usually fail to obtain, arguably due to their artificial outlook, and lack of inclusiveness in terms of opinions and people.
Hibrit anatomiler: Beden ve algının, aktüel ve virtüelle ilişkisinin sanatsal incelenmesi
This research conceptualizes the relationship between the actual and the virtual in the context of body and self. The subject matter of the thesis is based on personal memories of an illness, which caused distortions of reality. Conceptually the research reflects an intersection between sciences and philosophy. The second part of the research is practical research on the methodologies of producing three-dimensional objects and their effect on perception.
Doğadan birkaç parça : Asamblaj tekniği ile çoklu perspektif oluşturma
The subject matter of this thesis is analyzing the artistic research project "A Few Pieces from Nature" theoretically and technically. The aim of this analysis and thesis project is to problematize perspective, and investigate the relationship between perspective and focus by creating three-dimensional objects that can be considered assemblage boxes.
