Çin jeo-ekonomisi ve Afrika
Geçmişte diğer ülkelerin ekonomi kalkınması coğrafi savaşlardan geçiyorsa, 21. yüzyılda diğer ülkelerin fethi ekonomi yoluyla oluşuyor. Yeni terim jeo-ekonomi, her ülkenin dış ekonomisini tanımlar. Çin'in ihracatı dünyada birinci olduğundan dolayı Çin'in jeo-ekonomisi araştırmak önemlidir.
An empirical study on the determinants of renewable energy consumption in African countries: Evidences from panel data analaysis
Renewable energy has a vital role in tackling the issue of energy poverty in Africa. The adoption of renewable energy systems can provide people with several important services, which in turn can enhance their quality of life and help alleviate poverty. The thesis dwells on the impact of various factors, including growth, FDI, financial development, natural resources, and trade, on the consumption of renewable energy in 15 African countries from 1980 to 2018. The study utilizes different panel techniques., such as CSD and CADF tests. The findings of the study suggest a positive long-term link among growth, FDI, and openness with renewable energy use. However, financial development and natural resources have a negative effect on the use of renewable energy. Additionally, the study's causality results indicate a bidirectional relationships between the series.
Turkish foreign policy towards Africa
After the Cold war, Turkey embarked on a process of refining its foreign policy to position itself strategically in the global scene. This resulted in a shift in its foreign policy towards Africa such that it is now more open to Africa. This thesis aims at analyzing the shift towards Africa and reflects on the policy formulation. The areas to be covered include the traditional foreign policy, new foreign policy changes, focus of Turkish foreign policy on Sub-Saharan Africa. The nature of Turkey's relationship with its traditional allies has significantly influenced its foreign policy towards Africa. The extents to which the different players have been involved in the realization of the Turkey's policy objectives will be analyzed too. The transformation of Turkish foreign policy in favor of Africa is not a reorientation of Turkey from its Western or Eurasian allies, but an autonomous reposition driven by domestic and international dynamics of politics and economy.
Territorial conflict: Case study of Cameroon and Nigeria over the Bakassi peninsula
Territorial conflict within the context of Africa is a re-occuring situation. The history of these conflicts has struck almost every corner of the African continent. In the case of the Bakassi peninsula between Cameroon and Nigeria, it seem relative to other cases within the continent. As a common phenomenon of these kinds of dispute, the issues are easilly transformed to long wars. However, in the case of Bakassi, it is necessary to appraise the dispute in view of its perculiariaty as these states avoided war regarless of the numerous aggressive confrontations. Territorial conflicts in Africa generally are hereditary in nature due to the continents colonial history. The case of Bakassi like many different cases of territorial conflict in Africa comes from a similar position. Notwithstanding, this study has its variations to typical cases of territorial disputes between states. In this study we will get to see just what makes the Bakassi dispute perculiar from other cases of territorial disputes in Africa.

Corporate social responsibility in Ethiopia: Approaches and practices
There exists a great deal of academic writings about corporate social responsibility. However, the context of these papers is somehow similar focusing on the developed countries. Ethiopia, where the state is also a key player in the business has quite different business, state, and society interaction. In addition to the state‟s high stake in the business, the leverage of intellectual freedom, strong media, independent civil associations, activist and advocacy groups who had played a key role in transforming the notion of corporate social responsibility is so weak in Ethiopia. Hence it is an ideal context with less driving forces to measure companies‟ corporate social responsibility practices. Given the fact that corporate social responsibility is an under-researched area in developing countries, this paper aims to examine corporate social responsibility approaches and practices of indigenous firms in Ethiopia. Moreover, it will assess the stage of corporate social responsibility practice. Last but not least, this paper compares corporate social responsibility practices between private and state-owned companies. The finding reveals hat, though it is fragmented and the priorities are different from the global trend, Ethiopian companies practice CSR. In addition, there is no statistically significant differences between the CSR practices of private and state-owned businesses. The impact of external public debt on per capita income: In the case of common market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA)
This study examines the relationship between external public debt and real per capita income growth of Common Markets for Eastern and Southern African countries (COMESA). The study uses panel data covering the period between 1990-2018. We applied dynamic random effect, dynamic fixed effect, and generalized method of moments (GMM) models. Following the literature, we focus on variables of real per capita income (as a proxy for growth), gross general government debt, short-term external debt stock, external debt stock (% of GNI), external debt stock guarantee, long-term external debt stock, gross capital formation as an instrument for physical capital, labor force, real inflation rate, trade openness, external debt service, and debt service percentage of export. Our explanatory variables are gross government debt, short-term external debt stock, external debt stock (% of GNI), external debt stock guarantee, long-term external debt stock, debt service percentage of export, and external debt service, while the rest are used as control variables. Data come from the World Bank Development Indicators (WDI) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Keywords: Budget Deficits; COMESA; Dynamic Panel; Economic Growth; Gross Debt; GMM
Rwanda's rise over the past 20 years
Many countries in the African continent have been struggling with hunger, terrorism, and economic crises for years. In the process from the past to the present, the need for raw materials has increased with the development of the industry. Since the end of the 19th century, however, countries that are superpowers have seen countries with rich underground and aboveground resources, and easy management as targets for their own interests. Countries that fit this definition are mostly located on the African continent. Unable to determine their own political and economic future, these countries faced starvation, chaos, economic crises, terrorist activities and similar negativities. Rwanda survived the Belgian mandate in 1959 and witnessed the largest genocide in world history in 1994. After this great human tragedy, Rwanda decided to develop political, economic and cultural reforms in 1996. The coming to power of Paul Kagame in 2000 and remaining unchanged for 20 years enabled the country to rapidly develop economically and politically. While developing rapidly, Rwanda, which follows policies different from the policies implemented by many countries in Africa, has set an example for many countries in Africa with its rapidly developing economy and level of development. This rate of development makes Rwanda's strategy worth exploring. Looking at the previous studies, most of the studies on Rwanda are from the historical background of Rwanda-Burundi and the colonies of Belgium and France or the Rwanda genocide. However, Rwanda has started to develop its economy rapidly by implementing the financial policies implemented by Singapore to develop. This study is written to draw attention to the development of Rwanda, a small country in Africa, and to examine the rate of development in the country according to basic development criteria such as health, economy, trade, and education.
Crisis communication in Sub-Saharan Africa: Media coverage of terrorist attacks in the age of social media
In recent years, terrorist attacks became a serious plague in West African countries. Thus, various academics focused their works on the phenomenon and its consequences on economy and the lives of population. However, there is no academic research about the framing of terrorist attacks by the West African media, especially in a context of social media predominance. Not only Media have a duty to inform the public regarding every major incident, but besides, the remarkably dramatic side of terrorism captivates a large audience. Hence, news about terrorism floods more and more West African media ecosystem today. Yet, an appropriate comprehension of the issue of terrorism could result from a cautious reflexion on the multifaceted nexus that exists between extremism, mass media and public-opinion. By generating an anxious environment full of tension, terrorists use media to encourage the mobilization of public opinion to discuss their extortions. In this research, I will analyse and assess the media agenda setting and crisis communication strategy implemented by media practitioners in West African countries following terrorist attacks. Thereby, this study aims to diagnose the attitude of media professionals in relation to the coverage of terrorism, analyse it and evaluate it in the light of the various ethical and deontological rules that govern the profession of journalism. As a result, the investigations are carried out on samples based on interviews, survey data analysis and contents analysis of the main digital media in Burkina Faso and Mali. Therefore, the current study is essentially qualitative but follows a Sequential Mixed Method. It encompasses an analysis of a total of 219 news articles from "Maliweb.net" and "LeFaso.net", along with a corpus of 98 surveyed population and 4 interviews realized with "resource persons". In doing so, the central purpose of this research is threefold. Firstly, it aims to investigate and establish a nexus between crisis communication, media framing and the advent of social media prevalence. Secondly, this study attempts to check whether the processing of information by West African media respects the professional rules of journalism. The third purpose of the research concerns the comprehension of the digital prosumers' behaviours towards counterfeits information related to terrorism in West African context. Keywords: Framing, terrorism, West Africa, Media, Maliweb.net, LeFaso.net.
Intercultural management in the case of Turkish firms: The impact of African worker in a merger context
INTERCULTURAL MANAGEMENT IN THE CASE OF TURKISH FIRMS: THE IMPACT OF AFRICAN WORKERS IN A MERGER CONTEXT Studies on intercultural management highlight the need for international companies to adapt their management to the national specificities of the country where they are located. We explore here the intercultural management through a case study which concerns the intercultural management and the impact of the African workers in the Turkish companies. In general, this research aims to identify cultural issues during a merger process, to evaluate the perception of the actors during and after the merger context and to establish the cultural elements that play an important role during the adaptation process. This work is divided into five chapters. The introduction will set out the objectives and the problematic of the research. The second, third and fourth chapters will establish the theoretical basis for our study: the second will provide an overview of the literature on intercultural management, the third will focus on Turkish cultural and managerial characteristics and the fourth will outline the theory of change and the concept of merger and acquisition. The fifth will explain our case study, methodological approach and an analysis of the results.
Revisiting the impact of fragility indices on economic growth: New insights from sub-saharan Africa
This research examines the impact of fragility indices on economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa from 2006 to 2019. The variables of interest for this study include economic decline, economic inequality, human flight and brain drain, external intervention, and economic growth. The research objectives are to investigate the connection between the fragility indices and economic growth and to empirically determine the impact of fragility indices on economic growth. The data were tested for cross-dependence using Breusch-Pagan LM test; the existence of cointegration was ascertained in our variable using the Westerlund cointegration test. Fully modified ordinary least squares estimation technique was adopted for the first objective and the findings showed that only external intervention indices had a positive impact on economic growth. In achieving our second objective, we adopted mean group, augmented mean group, and common correlated effect mean group estimation technique and found that the coefficient of economic decline, economic inequality, and human flight and brain drain had a negative impact on economic growth, while external intervention had a positive impact. The research study recommends that the governments of fragile countries should develop corrective measures to remove these indicators to ensure progressive growth. Also, the state administrations need to ensure that suitable policies are put in place to encourage research and development. This will limit the problem of human flight and brain drain which are the major problems of fragile countries.
African mechanisms for the resolution of armed regional conflicts: An applied study on ECOWAS
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a sub-regional organization erected on the 28th of May, 1975 through the Lagos treaty. The primary objective of ECOWAS according to the 1975 was to promote economic cooperation among the fifteen countries that were signatory to the treaty and ratified it. However, the region has become home not only to economic problems, but also armed conflicts. This study aims to examine ECOWAS mechanisms for armed conflicts. The study exposes the various treaties including the 1993 revised version in a bid to understand and explain the effectiveness, achievements and limitations of the existing mechanisms for armed conflicts resolution within ECOWAS. The key questions for which answers are sought in this research are: 1) what is the aim of integrating the countries of the sub-region? 2) What is the armed conflict resolution mechanism of ECOWAS? 3) To what extent has ECOWAS armed conflict resolution mechanism performed? The study argues that ECOWAS has delivered economically, but undeforming in conflict resolution in the sub-region.
Criminal prosecutions of the International Criminal Court a study on court standards for criminal justice in Africa
A major element of justice is that it must apply to all, regardless of power, status, or position. The International criminal court (ICC) was founded as a global court to ensure that every individual is held responsible for international crimes that they commit. However, the support enjoyed by this court is fast waning out owing to principles such as anti-impunity, complementarity and referral powers granted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The ICC which was once greatly supported by African nations is now regarded as a racist organization by most African countries of its position in ensuring that justice is served to all. For this reason, the thesis explicitly discusses the position of the ICC regarding fairness and equity, therefore, analysing the reason for the change of friendship between the ICC and African countries. To do this, the thesis adopted a qualitative research methodology, using interviews. Interviews were made with 7 research participants who were professors and diplomats in Nigeria and Uganda. Nigeria and Uganda were selected since Nigeria is seen as a supporter of the court, whereas Uganda is an opposition of the ICC. Based on the interviews conducted, it was seen that the Nigerian research participants appraised the position and duties of the ICC, whereas the Ugandan participants expressed their concerns over issues such as the anti-impunity norm, and the UNSC referral rights which they felt should be scrapped or amended. The theoretical framework of the study is based on the norm localization model of Amitav Acharya, explaining how weaker states may want to repel or revolt against norms that they felt are not satisfactory or against their wishes. The repellent, in this case, is shown by African nations who believe that African leaders should enjoy immunity- a wish which goes against the general belief of anti-impunity.
Comparative analysis of the impact of fossil fuel and environmental waste on clean energy production between African and European
The availability of clean energy production is a current issue globally. Today, the negative impact of fossil fuels is more pronounced in the ecological environment where human dwells. Undoubtedly, the ecosystem is affected greatly by the chaos of fossil fuel production; this is evident in the greenhouse gas emission caused by the by-products of fossil fuels such as coal, CO2, and methane, which affect climate change and the well-being of humans. Environmental waste is another detrimental phenomenon to our ecosystem; how humans generate and manage waste determines the impact on clean energy accessibility. The present study's focus is to conduct a comparative analysis of the impact of fossil fuel and environmental waste on clean energy production between African and European Urban communities. This study adopted a deductive approach using a purposive sampling technique to select the study sample. Also, data used in the study was obtained through secondary
Foreign aid and economic growth in sub Saharan Africa countries
The effects of external aid to the developing countries on economic growth have been controversial in the economic literature for many years, and economists have made various statements on this issue. This thesis analyzes the effects of foreign aid on economic growth in Sub-Saharan African countries. In this study, the annual data of 29 sub-Saharan African countries between 1990 and 2017 were used. The main hypothesis of the thesis is that foreign aid promotes the economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. The hypothesis was tested using panel data on foreign aid. As a result of the large-scale literature review and econometric analysis, the foreign aid of developed countries and organizations to Sub-Saharan African countries has had a negative and insignificant impact on the economic growth in the long-term.
Evaluation of shelter services for internal unaccompanied minors in African's post conflict countries: "The case of burundi"
This study describes the main factors that explain the increasing migration of internal unaccompanied minors in Burundi, especially in Bujumbura; It also explores the problems and risks that these internal unaccompanied minors face during their migration journey to Bujumbura. In addition, this study explores the formal social assistance intervention and its adequacy provided to these children by FVS-AMADE Burundi Foster center who served as study population area in this study. A qualitative research approach was used that included the utilization of two different but narrowly linked semi-structured interview guide forms with a total of sixteen informants, thirteen internal unaccompanied minors and tree social workers. The analysis of the opinions of these informants was made with MAXQDA 2018 software by the use of thematic codes. In addition, the SWOT analysis tool was used for the third research questions of this study. The results of this study identified among other many factors, the extreme rural poverty; domestic violence against children within their families by stepfamilies and legal guardians as principal push factors that force these children to migrate; while the search of jobs opportunities, the search of safe environment; access to social infrastructures such as (education and health care) as well as family reunification were also identified as principal pull factors that attract these children to migrate to Bujumbura city. This study also identified; child trafficking, child exploitation; incarceration; ethnic denigration, criminal organization's attacks; etc, as the main risks that these children encounter on their migration journey to Bujumbura and after arriving in Bujumbura. Thus, this study suggests that a child protection intervention mechanism which aims to respond to the particular situation of the needs of these internal unaccompanied minors should be implemented. The child protection system and migration policies must prevent the risked migrations that expose children to violence and must be placed at all stages of the migration journey of these children; starting from their home cities, up to their destination place. This study also presents a series of specific policies to address the necessities of internal unaccompanied minors in Burundi.
Nijerya, Gana, Cote D'Ivore, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Gambiya, Nijer ve Togo'nun ticaret hacmi ECOWAS toplam ticaretinin yaklaşık % 98,5'ini temsil eder.
