Abstract (EN)

The circadian rhythm is a system that follows a cycle of approximately 24 hours and regulates metabolism, physiology and behavior. There are several circadian phase markers, one of which is the chronotype, which refers to an individual's daily preferences in performing various biological and psychological characteristics, including the timing of sleep and wakefulness. Food intake and eating patterns show similar daily rhythms and the timing of dietary intake, called chrono-nutrition, can be affected by an individual's chronotype. Chronotypes may influence weight gain, mechanism of obesity, and risk of chronic disease in relation to dietary habits. In this context, it is thought that determining the nutritional habits of individuals according to their chronotypes is important in terms of correcting wrong eating habits, reducing the risks of disease, and gaining healthy nutrition and meal habits. The aim of this study is to determine the chronotypes of the people participating in the study and to evaluate their food consumption, nutritional status and eating attitudes according to their chronotypes. Working INDEX INC. and NURSAN A.Ş. companies, with 120 (38 female, 82 male) office workers. The study was carried out using face-to-face interview technique, which is a first-hand data collection method. In the study, "Personal Information Questionnaire Form, Nutrition and Sleep Habits, Food Consumption Record, Morning-Evening Questionnaire, Eating Attitude Test and Night Eating Questionnaire" were used by the researchers as data collection tool. The collected data were evaluated with "IBM SPSS Statistics 22". The mean M/E score was found to be 52.378.729 points. According to the percentages of the participants, it was determined that they had 22.5% morning, 65% intermediate and 12.5% evening type. There was no significant difference between chronotypes and BMI categories (p>0.05). A significant correlation was found between chronotypes and skipping breakfast on weekdays and weekends (p<0.05). When energy, macro and micro nutrient intakes were examined according to chronotypes, no statistically significant difference was found between their consumption (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between eating attitudes and night eating syndrome status according to chronotypes (p>0.05). In conclusion, in this study, no relationship was found between chronotypes and nutrition in office workers. In this regard, a larger study should be conducted in groups with different demographic characteristics.
