Abstract (EN)

The condyle, which is a growth center of our body, can affect growth pattern of mandible. The remodeling on the condyle gives ability to this process. In this study, the condyle was investigated histomorphometrically with using mandibular advanced appliance combined with systemic administration of thymoquinone. The purpose of this study is to observe the affects of these interventions on the condyle. This study constructed randomly with 9 groups totally 69 Wistar albino male rats with the age 6 weeks, between 210 and 240 gram. Group 0 is the control group, group 1 is sham group, group 2,3,4 respectively 5,10,20 mg/kg thymoquinone without using of appliance, group 5 only the functional appliance was used, group 6,7,8 respectively 5,10,20 mg/kg of thymoquinone was used in addition to the mandibular advanced appliance. In a significant region of the posterior part of the condyle the cartilage thickness new vascular formation, new bone formation and new bone density were evaluated by histomorphometric method after sacrification. The results showed that the thymoquinones were increased the main effects obtained from mandibular advancement appliances. Minimum new bone formation were resulted in control group while the maximum new bone formation were observed in a mandibular advancement with administration of 20 mg/kg thymoquinone group.
