Abstract (EN)

Entry: With the development of technology, the use of the internet and accordingly smart phones is increasing day by day. Although smartphones make people's lives easier in many ways, excessive and uncontrolled use can lead to negativities in terms of individual social, emotional and even behavioral aspects and can create addiction. It is thought that this addiction and negativity have some consequences both in the quality of life and in the marriage of individuals. In this context, it is expected that the research will contribute to the relevant literature and shed light on the studies to be done. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of smartphone addiction on the quality of life and marital satisfaction in married couples and to contribute to the literature by interpreting the findings. Method: The study, which was designed with the survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was carried out on a total of 250 participants, 125 men and 125 women, who were married in the province of Elazig, and were limited by measurement tools. Four forms were used as data collection tool in the research. The first of these is the demographic information form created by the researcher. The scales used in the research are respectively; Smartphone Addiction Short Form, developed by Kwon et al. and adapted in Turkish by Noyan et al. (2015), was developed by the World Health Organization and its validity and reliability study in our country, Eser, Fidaner H., Fidaner C., Yalçın-Eser, Elbi et al. The Short Form of the Quality of Life Scale was developed by Göker (1999) and the Married Life Scale was developed by Tezer (1996). The data were delivered to the participants via online platforms and frequency analysis was applied to the questions about demographic data, marital status and phone usage time of the participants, and the distribution of the data was presented in the tables as "n" and "%".Afterwards, the mean and standard deviations of the expressions of the Smartphone Addiction, Marriage Life and Quality of Life scales used in the research were evaluated. The reliability of the scales used; It was evaluated with Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. Whether the Smartphone Addiction, Marriage Life and Quality of Life scales differ according to demographic data was analyzed with significance tests. Before deciding which analysis to use, whether the data fit the normal distribution was evaluated by Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests. Data that do not conform to the normal distribution; Mann Whitney U test in pairwise comparisons for analysis, and in comparison of two or more variables; Kruskal-Wallis H test was used. Pairwise comparisons were made with the Mann Whitney U test to determine between which groups there was a significant difference in the analysis. The relationship between the scales was evaluated with the Spearman correlation test. The effect of smartphone addiction on marital life and quality of life was evaluated with Regression analysis. Results: It has been determined that as smartphone addiction increases in the effect of relationships and phone addiction on marriage and quality of life, there will be a decrease in marital life satisfaction. In addition, as phone addiction increases, quality of life and all its sub-dimensions will decrease. It has been determined that as the satisfaction of married life increases, the quality of life and sub-dimensions of individuals will improve.
