Relationship of peer-bullying and peer victimization with gender, age, socioeconomiclevel, parental attitudes, peer relations and self-esteem

This research has been carried out with the aim of determining the prediction power of sex, age, socio-economic situation, parent attitude, peer relations and self-esteem variables of primary school 6.,7. and 8. grade students? peer bullying behaviour and peer bullying victimization.The sample of the study was gained from 685 students continuing 6.,7. and 8. grades of six primary schools from three different socioeconomic situation in Diyarbakir in 2008-2009 academic year . Data of predicted variable was gathered by using Peer Bullying Scala Turkish adaptation (Gültekin ve Sayıl, 2005) and Peer Victimization Scale Turkish adaptation (Gültekin ve Sayıl, 2005) and data of predicting variable was gathered by using Parent Attitude Scale (Kuzgun ve Eldeliklioğlu,1993), Peer Relationship Scale (Kaner, 1998), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale Turkish adaptation (Çuhadaroğlu,1986) and Personal Information Form developed by the researcher.Whether there are differences in terms of sex and age were examined separately by using MANOVA analysis for peer bullying behaviour and peer bullying victimization low dimensions, the aim of the research, and Stepwise Regration analysis was used with the aim of determining whether sex, age, socio-economic situation, parent attitude, peer relations and self-esteem predict the peer bullying behaviour and peer bullying victimization and if they predict, to determine to what extent they predict .When considered the research findings generally it's observed that boys experienced peer victimization more than girls and girls experienced peer victimization of attacks on property more than boys; peer bullying behaviours like terror, overt attack and relational attack were seen in boys more than girls. early adolescent students experienced peer victimization of teasing, overt attack and attacks on property more than middle adoloscent students. It was determined that sex, age, socio-economic situation, parent attitude, peer relations and self-esteem variables predict bullying behaviour and peer victimization on different low dimensions and in different types and research findings were discussed in the framework of the related literature.Key Words: Peer Bullying, Peer Bullying, Peer Victimization, Socioeconomic Situation, Parents Attitude, Peer relations, Self-esteem
