The perceptions of social adaptation of The Syrian graduate students who is studying in Ankara in the context of multiculturalism and identity

There has been a diversity rise in the multicultural structure of Turkish society, caused by the intense migration of Syrians into Turkey. This difference, assessed ideally as richness, is diversity, social cohesion forms come with identity differences, have been affected by a variety of dynamics hosted in Turkish society. In Turkey, having multiculturalism in historical roots of it, initially, the Syrian immigration was considered as Ansar-Muhajir, and this situation was evaluated as the scope of guest status. However, the regime persecution in Syria has not ended, on the contrary, continued by increasing its severity. This condition has led the Syrians in Turkey to be getting permanent. Due to some exaggerated adverse events and some lie news that have taken place in the media, the tolerant attitude of the Turkish society to the ones who were guests and the ones who started to be permanent has been reversed. Syrians have become a targeted other with the facilitation of their different identities in the society. In this context, field research was carried out using the qualitative research method within the scope of the thesis study. In the field research; within the framework of the impact of multiculturalism, impacts of identification differences on society in Ankara at the harmony point was examined based on Syrian immigration specifically for Syrian graduate students, and in this context, interviews were done with 14 Syrian students studying at the graduate level in state and foundation universities in Ankara. Under the light of the findings obtained from the interviews, prejudice against Syrians in Ankara was seen that the present state of society. However, it has been revealed that the prejudice situation is not specific to the Syrians, and it has become a state that covers all Arabs, and this situation is reflected in practice on various grounds and forms. It was observed that the media factor became prominent in the increase of prejudice, which mostly appeared as a verbal attack. It has been demonstrated that the emergence and continuance of prejudice can be resolved through correct communication. Keywords: Multiculturalism, Identity, Adaptation, Syrian, Other
