The clinical follow up of porcelain laminate veneers applied to tooth surfaces prepared with acid, laser and laser-acid combined system etching

For porcelain laminate veneers (PLV) restoration the connection failure is one of the most encountered problems. The aim of this study, is to evaluate the invivo success of PLV's, cemented to the enamel's surface which has been modificated with acid, lasers and laser-acid combination,manufactured with Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM). Eightysix PLV restoration was prepared in 18 patient with aesthetic complaints. The mock-up trials with composite and wax-up, prepations have been completed. After the intraoral digital impression PLV's design have been made and restorations have been produced by using IPS empress CAD blocks. Patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. İn the first group 37% orthophosphoric acid was applied to the enamel surface. İn the second group Erbium: Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Er: YAG) laser was applied to the enamel surface from 8 mm distance in non-contact mode with the settings of 1.2 watt, 120 mJ, 10 Hz, MSP, water + air +. İn the third group Er: YAG laser and %37 orthophosphoric acid was applied respectively to the enamel surface. After the surface modification procedures restorations were cemented with dual-cured resin cement (Variolink N). Restorations were followed for periods ranging from 6-12 months. The evaluation was performed by using modified USPHS (United States Public Health Service) criteria, Löe Silness plaque and gingival index, patient's satisfaction survey and according to the failure of restorations. For comparison of clinical evaluation, in the 1. week, 3. months and 6. months in three different time measurements Cochran Q test was used. To compare the digital measurement among three groups Friedman test was used. İn comparison of subgroups all pairwise method was used. To test the relationship between two categorical variables, chi-square tests were used. As an introductory statistics number and percentage values are given. SPSS software package was used for statistical analysis and p <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. There were no statistically significant differences between groups (p ˃0.05).
