Abstract (EN)
Colon cancer is one of the cancer types associated with the highest number of deaths each year worldwide. There is no specific information about the cause, but there is a lot of evidence associated with the incidence of colon cancer. The lifestyle factors of patients with colon cancer are very important because of the incidence of the disease and their impact on the course of treatment after the patient is diagnosed. The present study aims to evaluate lifestyle factors among patients in the city of Mosul in 2022. The study is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. In the study, a special tool suitable for Iraqi societies was applied. The tool consists of two parts, in the first part of which the demographic information of the patient is included, and in the second part, questions about general health, physical activities, balanced nutrition, mental health and weight control. The study was carried out with 72 patients diagnosed with colon cancer. Evaluation was made by percentage analysis. Looking at the results of the study, 27.8% of the sample of the study was between the ages of 49-58, 61.1% were male, 87.5% were married, 54.2 of them lived in the city, 31.9% were primary school graduates, 41.1% did not have a good income, 52.8% had a positive family history, 33.3% had a weight between 81-90 kg, 66.7% had a colostomy, 45.8% It was concluded that he had an additional disease and 57.57% of these additional diseases were hypertension, at the same time 83.3% had complications and these complications were mostly anorexia at a rate of 68.33%. When we questioned the lifestyles of the patients in the study, it was seen that 80.6% of the patients gave importance to their health in the field of general health, but 54.2% did not follow the health programs on television or radio. In the physical activities of the patients, It was observed that 59.7% of them led an active life, but 54.2% stated that they did not have enough energy to continue their daily living activities and they felt tired. In terms of nutrition, it was observed that the patients generally preferred a healthy diet and 59.7% of them avoided salty foods. Considering the mental health outcomes of the patients, It was concluded that 80.6% were satisfied with their life, but 56.9% did not have positive thoughts or feelings. As a result of questions about weight control. It was observed that 59.7% of the patients kept their weight at an appropriate level, but 69.4% did not follow a diet. Looking at the results in general, it can be said that patients diagnosed with colon cancer pay attention to their quality of life. However, these patients are still recommended to apply education programs to improve and their quality of life.
