Abstract (EN)
This is a quasi experimental study carried out for the purpose of determining the effects of respiratory relaxion exercises training related to at home care requirements of ambulatory treated with chemotherapy lung cancer patients on self-care ability and functional life of the patient. The study was carried out on 60 lung cancer patients receiving chemotherapy treatment at the ambulatory chemotherapy unit of the Oncology Hospital affiliated to Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Application Hospital between 15/04/2015 - 15/ 09/2016. 30 patients were taken into experimental groups and 30 patients into control groups with the power analysis study sample and simple random sampling method. The questionnaire form prepared by researcher by making a literature review, Self-Care Ability Scale, Functional Life Scale developed for cancer patients, gathered study data. Descriptive statistical methods, Shapiro Wilk test, Student t test, paired t test and chi square test were used in the analysis of the data obtained in the study using p <0.05 was considered as statistically significant. The Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient is calculated for testing the validity of the scales. 91,7% of the patients included in the study were male, 15% were small cell lung cancer, 83,3% were stage 4, 25,0% had bone metastasis. In the experimental group, Self-Care Ability Scale pre-test score average was 82.60 ± 17.87 and the post test score average was 94.13 ± 16.47, which was significantly different between the groups (p <0.05). In the experimental group, Functional Life Scale pre-test score average was 91.87 ± 10.66 and the post test score average was 93.23 ± 11.71 and there was no significant difference between the groups (p> 0.05). In the research in which we found self-care and functional life scores of lung cancer patientsaccording to other studies are low, it was observed that respiratory relaxion exercises training applied to the patients affected the patients' self-care and functional life positively. Key words: Lung Cancer, Self-Care Ability Scale, Functional Life Scale, Chemotherapy.
