The defence of ayn al-Godat Hemedani̇'s İslami̇c sufi̇sm (Sample of Sekval Gari̇b)

Aynü'l-Kudât Hemedânî is one of the most important person of Islamic Intellectual History. Once he was almost disseppeared from the pages of Islamic Intellectual History. But recently he has been well-known again as he has deserved, thanks to the academic studies that were hold about him. Aynü'l-Kudât is accepted as the forerunner of İbn Arabî who is one of the most important person in Islamic Intellectual History. As a disciple of Ahmed Gazzâlî, he is an alive example of sufism tradition that is represented by important persons such as Hallâc and Bayezid-i Bistâmî. However he is an intellectual who is equipped with rational analysis power. Like Selefi Hallac-ı Mansur, his free thoughts has caused jealousy among the people who are interested in conservative fıqh and kalam. Some succinct statements he used for the topics suuch as notably probhecy, attributes of Allah, acquirement, soul and the eternity of universe were misinterpreted and he was adjudged to his empiety. This event ended up with the execution of Aynü'l-Kudât by Seljukian vezier. In this study, we aimed to analyse his defence named Şevka'l-Garib that he wrote while he was in the Bağdat prisons a short time before his death. So we tried to prove that he had so different thoughts than the accusations those were made about him.
