Investigating sports injuries of physically handicapped sporters and their rehabilitation process

This study has been made with the aim of investigating such factors as the injury types of physically handicapped athletes, their reasons and treatment processes. It has been aimed to answer the following questions. What are the sports injuries that physically handicapped basketball players and Amputee Football players suffer? What are the reasons of injuries? What should be done during the rehabilitation process? It was explained what should be done for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the disabled players sport disabilities. 18 amputee football players and 12 wheelchair basketball team players were taken as sample group. In this study, the observation, conversation techniques and descriptive scanning model were used to identify the disability that amputee football and wheelchair basketball team's players experienced in the season and during their sport life. Players were observed during training and competitions throughout the season. The players disabilities that occurred in the competitions and training including the preparation term were saved. In addition, the questionnaire aiming to identify the types of the players disabilities that they experienced throughout their sport life was applied to the players. The descriptive statistics were used; frequency and percent values were identified by using SPSS 16.0 packet program for the data analysis. Finally, According to both observations and data from the questionnaire form, the disability types and areas of the players who were in the amputee football team and wheelchair basketball team were generally seen in the extreme parts of the body. The reason of that are the body parts, equipments that were used for their specific branches. Key Words: Physically Handicapped Athletes, Amputee Football, Wheelchair Basketball, Rehabilitation.
