A story of life from the Municipal President to Yassıada M. Rauf Onursal (1909-1974)

Rauf ONURSAL was born in Kütahya in the last periods of the Ottoman State and saw the collapse of the state. Onursal, who was 14 years old on the date of the establishment of the republic, after receiving his pre-university education in his city of Kütahya, he won the Ankara Law Faculty and became a lawyer by graduating. Onursal, who started his political life in CHP, joined Democrat Party at the age of 47 with the start of multi-party life. In this study, both family life and political life of Rauf Onursal were revealed as a result of the researches. His duty, which started with the district administration in the Democratic Party, later continued with provincial administration, provincial chairman, provincial chairman, mayor, deputy and General Board Member. Although Rauf Onursal came to the fore with his harsh rhetoric against the CHP both in opposition and in power, he made history as a good administrator. His works during the Mayor's Office are admirable. In this study, in particular Rauf Honorary Democratic Party, it bears the face of Turkey's aim to demonstrate how to change that. Rauf Onursal, who was among the Democratic Parties tried in Yassıada with the Military Coup of 27 May 1960, was tried with the Violation of the Constitution, the Democrat İzmir Newspaper, the Homeland Front and the Illegal Legitimate Wealth Acquisition Cases and was sent to Kayseri Prison with a life sentence. Rauf Onursal, who was released 4 years later due to his illness, did not deal with politics after prison. He died on August 23, 1974, as a result of a heart attack in his own home.
