Abstract (EN)

The life of Cengiz Dağcı, one of the distinguished writers of contemporary Turkish-Crimean literature, begins in the town of Gurzuf in Crimea and ends in London, England, where he spent his life with homesickness. While fictionalizing his experiences, the author also transfers the cultural memory of the society to the future. The journey of the author's search for his self appears with the aestheticization of the sufferings he has experienced. Although Dağcı's works overlap with reality, they bear the traces of his imagination as they pass through a language filter and turn into a written text. The cultural values and lifestyles of Crimea, which reflect the use of local language in the author's works, serve the instrumentality of metaphorical language and add an aesthetic value. Dağcı entered Turkish literature with his autobiographical novels, The Terrible Years and The Man Who Lost His Homeland, published primarily under the title Sadık Turan'ın Memoirs. In his work They Were Also Human, the author described the tragic genocide that the Crimean Turks would suffer; in his works The Cold Street and Babies Hanging on an Almond Branch, he addressed the universal depression that the political and social conditions of the period suppressed in the individual during World War II. The sincere style that the author preferred while reflecting the realities from the depths of his imagination into his works highlights the metaphorical aspect of the language he expressed while describing the events. The fact that it is not possible to understand an abstract concept, thought or emotion in plain language has turned the use of metaphor into a necessity in terms of effective discourse. The fact that the individual, the smallest individual in society, interprets what he wants to say with metaphorical comparisons reflects the figurative aspect of language and also transfers concepts to each other. This thesis, which is the subject of the research, was started by reading Dağcı's aforementioned novels and the studies conducted. As a result of the obtained data, ontological metaphors will be analyzed under the titles of nature, space, matter, animal, personality and time metaphors. Determinations regarding the author's language will be made through the prominent metaphor types.
