The concept of trauma has been in our lives since World War II. Traumas appear and manifest themselves in various ways. Childhood traumas, on the other hand, are a situation that manifests itself in adulthood during the unresolved process that has progressed since childhood. Childhood traumas are divided into 5 in themselves: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, emotional neglect and physical neglect. The concept of self-compassion is the ability to embrace oneself and to show a kind and gentle attitude towards oneself. At the same time, self-compassion represents self-kindness, common humanity, and minfulness for us. Self-disgust is the state of hatred, disgust and displeasure towards oneself. Self-disgust is divided into two in itself. The first is self-disgust towards out behavior. The second is self-disgust towards the our body. In this study, the effects of childhood traumas on self-disgust and self-compassion were examined. It was desired to observe the protective and healing role of self-compassion. The research was collected from a sample of 423 people between the ages of 18 and 45 living in Turkey through Google forms. Demographic information form, revised form of childhood traumas scale (CTQ-33), self-compassion scale and revised form of self-disgust scale were used in the study. In line with the findings of the study, it was observed that as childhood traumas increased, self-compassion decreased and self-disgust increased. The protective effect of self-compassion came to the fore. In addition, various demographic variables were found to be significantly associated with self-compassion and self-disgust. Demographic variables that are significantly associated with self-compassion and/or self-disgust are: gender, age, income level, psychological disorders, physical/medical disorders, parenting attitudes, and body mass index. The study has been discussed with other studies at domestic and abroad. As a result of the discussion, it was seen that the domestic literature provided a great benefit in terms of the lack of self-disgust and self-compassion concepts.
