Abstract (EN)

Various treatment options are available for the reconstruction of defect areas in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Autogenous grafts, which are known as the gold standard among the grafts used in the repair of bone defects caused by trauma, infection, resection or pathologies. They have disadvantages such as donor site morbidity and insufficient graft quantity. Recently, xenogenous grafts have been preferred frequently due to their long-term dimensional stability and appropriate biomechanical properties. Bisphosphonates are the preferred antiresorptive drugs at Paget's disease, breast and prostate cancers with bone metastasis, and postmenopausal osteoporosis. Bisphosphonates, with their anticatabolic properties, inhibit osteoclastic activity and increase bone formation. They are also effective in the formation and maturation of osteoblasts as an anabolic effect. In this study, it is aimed to examine the ossification obtained on the defect model created in the rabbit skull with the combined use of risedronate with xenogen grafts histomorphometrically, immunohistochemically, and radiologically. Key Words: Bisphosphonate, bone healing, xenogen graft, risedronate, rabbit defect model.
