Evaluation of the diabetes patients self-care practises and related factors

Introduction:Diabetes Mellitus(DM) effects inidividuals and society with its lifelong complications. The self care consciousness patient with DM can determine how much the diasease can be undertaken. Aim: This study is planned to define the self care practises of patients with DM and related factors Materyal and Method: 104 DM patients whom appealied to Endocrinology clinic were recruited to study. Data was collected with an questionnaire which was approved by the ethic commitee and hospital management. Data was evaluated with SPSS 16.0 software. Results. %65,4 of the patients were female and %34,6 were male; %74 of the patients were married, %9,6 were divorced and %9,6 were widow. Patients distribution according to education status was likes this; %6,7 can only read an write,%54,8 was gratuated from elemantary and secondary school, %38,5 was gratuated from university. %38,5 of the patients (n=40) had an another chronic disease. When we compare Type 2 DM self effectiveness scale and self effectiveness suffiency scale results according to age, education status, disease duration and other chronic disease assest ,which we used to determine self care needings of the patients, were statistically significant. Result: Suggestions have been made about self care requirements and that needs to be assesed to arrange necessary training and to take the training to diabetes patients an patients whom diagnosed newly.
