Abstract (EN)
With the shift in balance of power after the Second World War, a new world order was formed. The cold war era which was to last from 1947 up to 1991 also emerged. This process named as a world of two blocs saw the struggles between the USA and the USSR caused major developments in the world. With the competition between these two super powers, the world divided into two became the struggle of communism and imperialism. After the Second World War, in many countries, the demand to be leaned towards the socialist order and the spread of socialist movements was met with a reaction by the USA. A political war was declared against the USSR. In order to protect the socialist countries, the USSR too formed a cominform against the USA. This situation resulted in the development of different ideologies, the experiencing of societal events and the reestablishment of countries and the quickening of monopoly in a world that was divided into two poles. Up to 1968, the spread of capitalism and communism in the countries of the world resulted from the reaction felt with the spread of economic developments that created class rift from the lowest levels of society to the highest. In the aftermath of WWII, the gaining of momentum of national liberation struggles that emerged, the emergence of consumerist societies, the craving that democratic explosions could create new societies and because of this, the resistance of authoritarians created the dynamics of the 1968 movements. In this situation, it emerged that the only force that could struggle to change societies were students and the enlightened ones. What happened within the 68 youth, by not accepting the society and holding onto criticism but what they criticised, they could not demonstrate a holistic approach to the insufficiencies they saw in the society. Because of this, the 68 youth could not transform their actions according to a definite plan that could be a realistic movement. In unplanned and spontaneous actions, the activists informed what they wanted to demolish but in its place they did not know what and how they intended to establish. And because of this, after a short while the movements died out within the very political leadership they created after submitting to political liberalisation. The actions that shook the world emerged in a way the reactions were felt about the policies of each country. The movements that started in France in 1968 and spread throughout the world carried their own unique characteristics. University occupations across the world, the boycott of education spread with much speed. The youth, against those in power saw the realisation of protests, boycotts and university occupation by making their political statements. The youth who wanted cultural and political change, the youth who questioned, commented and with their disposition that wanted transformation, brought about a generation of freedom thinkers. While the political themes the youth used in their activism turned into a revolution that shook the world, statements like education, gender equality, sexual freedom became international demands by creating a domino effect. At the end of the events of 68, the world, politics, economics, social, cultural and fundamental rights earned important gains in these regards.
