reastfeeding process is concidered to be an important step for promoting physical and psycologycal infant health due to the fact that the superior aspects of breastfeeding are proven and the new data added in the literature. The World Health Organization recommended that infants be breastfed for up to 2 years old based on the evidence of the benefits of extended breastfeeding. The overview of the experiences of the mothers breastfed for at least 6 months will provide a basis for the realization of this reccomendation. In addition, the understanding of the attitudes of mothers ceased breastfeeding in the early period and the examination of the underlying problems is important in regard of the problems required to be get through.In this study it was aimed to determine the breast feeding knowledge, attitudes and application of the mothers who have babies between age range of 0-2 years old and the factors influencing them. It was aimed to be useful to the mothers education in regard of breastfeeding by taking precautions for the elimination of the identified deficiencies. The study was conducted between the dates of May 15, 2011 and August 10, 2011, by using a questionnaire.In our study, the nutrition ratio for breastfeeding has been detected respectively as %72,4, %63,8 and %34,3 in 1st, 3rd and 6th months. It was found that 35% of the infants were given liquids out of breastfeeding as first nutrient, and only 47.4% of the infant were begun breastfeeding within an hour following the birth. The age, education level and working status of the mother were observed not to influence the duration of the breastfeeding. Although all of the mothers had taken prenatal follow up, only 32.7% were found to get a prenatal information about breastfeeding from the health care personnel. Additionally, the majority of the mothers were learned to be inadequate or deficient in the accurate breastfeeding knowledge and breastfeeding application.The establishment of the routine of extremely breastfeeding and the education of the right breastfeeding knowledge has to become a mission of the healthcare institutions in regard of widespread wrong attitudes in our society.
