Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between high school students' social media usage and self-confidence levels. In 2017-2018, a total of 247 women, 112 men and 247 students attended the Ataköy Cumhuriyet Anatolian High School, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Education. The participants were given a socio-demographic form developed by the researcher. ''Social Media Attitude Scale in Students '' developed by Otrar and Argın was used to measure social media attitudes. To measure the level of self-confidence ''The self-confidence scale'' adapted from Turkish by Akın was used. The data were analyzed by using SPSS Windows Package Program using predicted statistical techniques. As a result of the study, it was found that the average scores of the adolescents who spent 4 hours or more on the internet were significantly higher than those of the adolescents who spent 2-3 hours on the Internet and 1 hour or less. According to the education level of the father, the mean scores of adolescents with primary and lower education level were found to be significantly higher than those with higher education scores. According to the findings obtained in the study, a negative correlation was found between the scores of the adolescents' Social Media Attitude Scale and the total score they obtained from the Self-Confidence Scale. As the self-confidence levels of adolescents decrease, their social isolation increases.
