Abstract (EN)

With the development and widespread use of social media applications the people can't control the active participation of the children on these platforms. For this reason child abuse has gained a new dimension on socıal media. So the effects of social media on children have emerged as an important area to be examined. In this study, the content of the Youtube videos which have the content related with the children who are the victoms of emotional abuse by their parents, types and frequency of emotional abuse in early childhood were investigated. As YouTube videos were analyzed within the scope of the study, document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In the study, videos were selected with purposeful sampling. Ten children who produce content on YouTube and have the highest followers has been selected fort his reason. A total of 100 videos, including the 10 videos with the highest number of views, published in the last 6 years of each channel, containing their mother or father, were examined within the scope of emotional abuse and its subdimensions. The video contents determined in the first step of the data analysis were analyzed with the "Dedoose" program according to the codes created based on the sub-dimensions of emotional abuse. Micro-analysis was carried out for each video using the Multi-Directional Interaction Analysis method, which allows analysis from many different aspects. This method has enabled a multidimensional view of the videos by focusing not only on the words in the video (Norris, 2013), but also on the visuals, the movements on the screen, the sound effects used, the gestures, mimics and voice tones of the people. During the analysis of the videos, an "Emotional Abuse Information Detection Form" (Appendix 2) was created for each YouTube channel, and the findings found in each analyzed video were recorded. As a result of the study, emotional abuse was found in 5 of the 10 YouTube channels examined, and the frequency of emotional abuse of children by their parents in the videos was determined as 17%. In these videos, it was seen that the children were mostly emotionally abused by their mothers, and the most common emotional abuse behaviors were scolding, humiliation, lack of emotional reaction and neglect. The sub-dimensions of rejection, overprotection, isolation, discrimination, delinquency and nickname were not found.
