Abstract (EN)

İdâdî is a term used for schools which give secondary education. The term is derived from the Arabic word "idâd" and it means to prepare and to educate. Succeeding ibtidâîye and rüşdiye, idâdî schools were also named as idâdîye. İdâdî schools were approached as a level of secondary education with Maârif-i Umûmiye Nizamnâmesi (Statute on General Education) in 1869 and attained its real identity at that time. In 1873 the building of Dȃr'ül-maârif was converted into the first civilian idâdî. In 1884 a decision of tax addition was taken and by means of these taxes many idâdî schools were opened in the country. One of these idâdî schools is Erzurum Mülkî İdâdîsi (Civilian Idadî of Erzurum). In 1885 the decision of opening was taken for Erzurum Mülkî İdâdîsi and the education and training activities started in 1889. In 1891 the final two classes were added to the Erzurum Mülkî İdâdîsi which consisted of five classes, and as a result, a five class boarding idâdî was established. With a decision taken in 1913 Erzurum Mülkî İdâdîsi was converted into a sultânîye (lyceie). In this study, information about the educational institutions in Classical and Innovation Period, and about Erzurum Mülkî İdâdîsi will be given.
