The research of the science teachers' views on distance education according to various variables

The Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which emerged at the end of 2019, has affected many areas, especially health, all over the world. One of these areas is education. Distance education has become very important due to the suspension of face-to-face education worldwide due to the pandemic. Millions of people around the world have started to continue their education through distance education. In our country, as well as the whole world, face-to-face education activities at all education levels were suspended and distance education started. In this research, it has been tried to determine the opinions of science teachers working in secondary schools regarding distance education applications, which are frequently used during and after the Covid-19 pandemic and are thought to continue to be used in the future. For this purpose, the research was carried out with a survey design, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The study group of the research consisted of 212 volunteer teachers working in the central Karatay, Selçuklu and Meram districts of Konya. The data collection tool named "Scale for Determining Teachers' Views on Distance Education" developed by Metin, Çevik & Gürbey (2021) was used for the research. After obtaining the necessary permissions from the Ministry of National Education, the relevant scale was applied to the willing and volunteer teachers and the data were collected. SPSS 26 and AMOS programs were used for the analysis of the quantitative data obtained in the study. When we take a look at the results of the first sub-problem of the research, it has been determined that there is a significant difference on the common difficulties teachers face and the positive aspects of distance education in terms of gender. According to the results, female teachers experienced more problems in distance education than male teachers. It was also concluded that male teachers viewed distance education more positively than female teachers. When we look at the results obtained from the analyzes for the second sub-problem of the research, it has been determined that there is a significant difference in many factors according to professional seniority. In the results obtained regarding the third sub-problem of the research, it has been determined that there is a significant difference in almost all factors according to the education level. The findings of the fourth sub-problem show that that the past distance education experiences of the Science teachers differ significantly in all factors except the General Problems Experienced in Distance Education factor. According to the results, it is seen that science teachers with previous distance education experience are more optimistic about the opportunities that distance education provides to teachers and students compared to those who do not. According the results of the fifth sub-problem of the research, it has been determined that there is no significant difference between the case that the teachers have to take care of their own children at home and their attitude towards the distance education. The results of the sixth and the last sub-problem of the study show that there is a significant difference between the case from which faculty the teachers graduated and their attitudes towards distance education in almost all factors.
