Abstract (EN)

In the thesis study called "The Reflections Of Hatay Issue In Izmir Press (1936- 1939)" it is aimed to explained the adventure of merging the region called Sandjak at international platforms and Hatay as Atatürk referred to ,with homeland and how this was handled in İzmir press. Hatay issue appeared as an international problem in 1936 and ended in 1939 with the absolute merger of the area to Turkey. For this reason the years between 1936 and 1939 were taken into consideration in this study. İzmir Press embraced the issue at a degree that can be compared to our current and previous capital cities' press did. Point of views reflected in the news about the issue in the newspapers, how progresses handled in the articles, the power of the newspapers on drawing public attention to the area, determining whether the problem was pursued in both national and in the scope of including European press have been the primary aims. The newspapers Anadolu, Yeniasır and Halkın Sesi published in İzmir from 1936 to1939 were examined. Since some of them weren't transposed to the digital networks properly, there were massive difficulties in reviewing those articles. In the rest some of the news couldn't be read because the pages are damaged. All of the determinations about the study are presented in the conclusion. In the introductory chapter; events were mentioned from the time we lost Sandjak Region in World War I and accepted this by the Ankara Treaty we signed in 1921 to 1936 when this was made an international issue as a result of diplomatic contacts. In the first chapter; it is mentioned that after the ceasefire agreement that France and Syria signed in 1936, Turkey was against the idea of Sancak were to given Syria and escalating the issue to League of Nations by taking advantage of the increasing tension in Europe, having the issue of decision on Hatay mentioned as " separate entity" ; in the second chapter the studies executed in order to create a sovereign government and Frances attempts to sabotage that by various ways and besides that decision to improve relationship with Turkey in the fear of raising German treat and foundation of Hatay State in this scope were covered and in the final chapter the merging process of Hatay to the homeland and in accompany with bilateral treaties were covered from the İzmir Press's point of view.
