The position of İbn Kamal's tafsîr in al-Kashshaf tradition: İn the context of the al-Lugha (Linguistic sciences) and al-balāga (Rhetorical sciences) a comparative analysis

Zamakhsharī (d. 538/1144) applied the theory of nazm which was improved by Abd al-Qâhir al-Jurjânî (d. 471/1078) to explain i'jâz'ul-Qur'an to the tafsîr, and he pioneered in balāga method in tafsîr literature. There had been formed a spesific tradition of al-Kashshaf with mufassirs has followed to al-Kashshaf's method and content and wrote the sharhs and hashiyahs. Ottoman Shaykh al-islam İbn Kamal pasha (d. 940/1534) is one of the mufassirs who has written tafsîr by following this method and tradition. The aim of this research is to determine the position of İbn Kamal in al-Kashshaf tradition in the context of the al-lugha (linguistic sciences) and al-balāga (rhetorical sciences). The thesis consists of an introduction and two chapters. In the first chapter, It was recounted İbn Kamal's tafsîr studies. It was specially introduced the tafsîr of İbn Kamal which is the main topic of the research, in different terms. In the next chapter first, It was considered a general idea of the İbn Kamal's attitude to al-lugha and al-balāga in his tafsîr. And then it was comparatively analysed al-Kashshaf, the tafsîrs written on the basis of al-Kashshaf and İbn Kamal's tafsîr in the context of the al-lugha and al-balāga. This comparative research in the selected section shows that İbn Kamal followed to al-Kashshaf and Anwar in terms of method, that he examined into al-Kashshaf and Anwar in terms of content, and that he contributed to al-Kashshaf tradition.
