Abstract (EN)
Insulin resistance occurs in which insulin does not work as well to reduce blood sugar levels. A number of illnesses, including dementia, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and early mortality, are significantly influenced by insulin resistance In 25% of the healthy population, insulin resistance is observed. In addition to genetic characteristics; sedentary lifestyle and dietary habits are of great importance in insulin resistance. This study was carried out to examine the changes in some blood parameters when the current diet approach, intermittent fasting and elimination diet, is applied in individuals with insulin resistance. In total, 82 persons participated in this study, comprising 30 patients 30 years or above the age of 30 without insulin resistance and 52 patients 30 years or above the age of 30 who applied to a private endocrinology clinic and were diagnosed with insulin resistance. Laboratory results were noted both before and after dietary modification. While the rate of female participants in the study was 41.46%, the rate of male participants was 58.54%. The study was planned prospectively. The files and analysis data recorded in the clinical information processing system were examined and study results were obtained in the patients' socioeconomic status, findings regarding insulin resistance parameters like weight, height, rapid glucose levels, insulin, HOMA-IR and blood lipids including LDL, HDL and triglycerides. In addition, values for ALT, AST and GGT have been analysed. All patients were allowed to apply an elimination diet and an intermittent fasting diet together for a period of 6 weeks. The patients were given the General Characteristics of Individuals Questionnaire Form; According to the outcomes of a paired sample t-test, a significant difference between the baseline and post-diet results of every laboratory finding assessed for both individuals with and without insulin resistance was discovered (p<0.05). Also, it is seen that the average of all laboratory findings in patients with insulin resistance decreased positively after the diet. In conclusion of study, intermittent fasting and elimination diets appear to be an effective dietary therapy for patients with insulin resistance. It should also be pointed out that the implementation of and use by nutrition and diet experts in patients with insulin resistance is important.
