Abstract (EN)

Kaptanzade Ali Rıza Bey was born in Istanbul in 1881 and took the name Kaptanzade because of his father's profession. Although little is known about him, he is accepted as a composer who has left traces in our music history with his works. In addition to being a civil servant, playing the Piano, Kanun, Violin and Ney, teaching these different instruments, the actor and acting characteristics have led to a remarkable situation. The social change that took place especially in the 19th century was accepted as a period in which a new order and understanding prevailed. In the field of art, this change has led to the formation of a spirit from a more traditional Islamic structure to an environment where western influences are seen and different motifs and colors emerge. This change, which was first seen in the Ottoman palace, was also popular with the society, and gradually, different understandings in our music culture gave birth to different productivity. Ali Rıza Bey, who is considered one of the representatives of this transition period in our music, composed Operettas, Marches, Tangos, Cantos, Foxrots, Fantasies with the musical culture and understanding that he built on his western education at a young age. With its current name, "Izmir March", "Istanbul gentleman", "Flirtatious girl", "Evening at Sea" are some of his compositions. These compositions were highly appreciated at that time; they were staged, played on records, and he acted in some of them, and even went on tours and presented them to different audiences at that time. His works in the form of Fantasies and Songs in Turkish Music, too, were highly appreciated. He used the poems of Ömer Bedrettin Uşaklı as lyrics in his oral Works. Keywords: Kaptanzade, İzmir Anthem, Under the stars
