Abstract (EN)
History of humanity has always struggled for a shelter to survive the hardships the geographical conditions brought about and afterwards struggled to design and produce liveable housings. It is seen that urban transformation implementations have come about as a response to the needs of people for a purpose to unriddle the unplanned urbanisation as well as social and economic housing issues that existed in our country. The housing issues that have arisen with the increase in population has made urban transformation necessary due to the fact that infrastructure and public transportation systems have failed to satisfy. With the improvement of living conditions and living quality of the user, his/her needs would be shaped and directed. Designs of the locations and residences, which were carried out without a plan in the old days will continue to come into existence within a system directed at the requirements and needs of the living beings. Urban transformation was specifically selected in thisa thesis. Urban transformation has been implemented in many regions in our country since 2012, however, it is noticable that not a sustainable transformation is being performed. In the new urban transformation projects, we need to turn our ways to sustainable criteria and materials. Answers will be sought to these questions in the study:Sustainability in urban transformation buldings will be considered within Turkey. Under which needs has use of sustainable resources been arisen? Are there sustainable mateirals available, and related certification system available? When the added value these materials add on the building is considered, how would it contribute life qualities of the user? Answers will be sought to the question of whether the high costs introduced on the contractor and the user in buildings could be lowered economically using natural resources. Researches will be based on the literature, expert opinion and the existing regulations as well as sustainable architectural design and building regulations of the Ministry of Environment, TOKI – Housing Development Administration of Turkey will be investigated and the findings obtained will be evaluated so as to in which materials the sustainability concept has been used. Results of the researches will be evaluated, examples of the buildings selected based on the national and international building regulations and the differences between the indoor spaces that do or do not use sustainable materials will be tabulated. VI In the assessments made, it comes about that it is economically and sanitarily important for users to prefer sustainable materials within indoor spaces in the long term. In the comparative table prepared, which materials are listed under which standard is defined. In the researches made as well as in expert opinions, it is revealed that using sustainable materials does prolong the building life. In conclusions section, it is seen that the German Kommerzbank Building and the Building of the Turkish Association for Contractors were sustainably designed and will meet the needs in the long term. In Demetevler housing complex of TOKI, it is obvious that the building was not sustainably designed and it will not cater to the needs in the long terms when the visual quality of the materials used within the building and the technical specifications are considered. In suggestions section, it is seen that, as a result of the findings obtained in selection of the materials used in indoor spaces, it would be appropriate to prefer sustainable materials.
