Alpha adducin Gly460Trp gene polymorphism in coronary artery disease

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common couse of death especially in industrialised countries. Etiologically, genetic and environmental factors play an important role in the CAD. Although clinic and phenotypic features of CAD is known relationship between increased risk and genetic variants is unknown.Alpha adducin gene is a candidate gene that potencial risc factor for hypertension and changing efficacy of antihypertencive therapy. Adducin is a cell skeleton protein and plays an important role for ion transport. Adducin modulates connection between actin and spectrin. Polymorphism of ?-adducin can cause salt retantion and tendency for hypertension. On the other hand presence of 460Trp alleles can increase cardiovasculary disease risc.İn this study we investigated relationship between ?-adducin Gly460Trp polymorphism and CAD risc factors. 270 patients mean age 58.32±11.01 included study whom CAD diagnosed with coronary angiography. İn the control group there was mean age 49.27±10.51 included 79 person whom normal coronary arteries diagnosed with coronary angiography.İn patienst with CAD, GG, GT and TT genotypes frequency were respectively %83 (n=226), %13 (n=35) and %3.3 (n=9). İn control group GG and GT genotypes frequency were respectively %84,8 (n=67) and %15,2 (n=12), ther was no TT genotype in control group (n=0). Statistically difference has not been defected (p>0,05). Also there were not relationship between ?-adducin Gly460Trp genotype and age, smoking, sex, heredity and hypertension. There were statistically meaning difference between total cholesterol levels and in person carrying variant alleles.As a result of, our study we conclude that ?-adducin Gly460Trp polymorphism is not a risc factor for development of CAD.
