Abstract (EN)

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the most common causes of death in developing countries. In order to be able to reduce the incidence and death rates because of coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular diseases, cardiovascular risk factors should be taken under control. All of coronary events do not always emerge in individuals who have traditional risk factors. In recent studies, the relationship between serum asymmetric dimethylarginine levels (ADMA) and CVD have been investigated. In our study, we have three goals. At first, we compare serum ADMA levels of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), Stabile Coronary Artery Disease (SCAD) and angiographically normal coronary arteries (NCA) individuals. Secondly, we try to discover plasma ADMA levels and the position of the classic risk factors. Finally, the relationship between the prevalence and severity of coronary artery disease and serum ADMA levels has been investigated. In our study, 50 ACS, 50 SCAD and 50 angiographically NCA, who contacted our emergency service or cardiology clinic and underwent coronary angiography, were included. The sick and normal coronary groups have been compared in accordance with demographic characteristics, cardiovascular risk factors, biochemical parameters, serum ADMA levels, carotid intima thickness (CIMT) and endothelial dysfunction measured by ultrasound, and the relationship between between the prevalence and severity of coronary artery disease and serum ADMA levels have been investigated by using Gensini score,In our ACS and SCAD groups, serum ADMA levels are significantly higher than NCA group. As the result of our study, serum ADMA levels reveal the severity and extent of CAD. Besides, the statistically significant relationship between serum ADMA levels, CIMT and endothelial dysfunction shows that high serum ADMA levels are correlated as a sign of early atherosclerosis in CIMT increase/ endothelial dysfunction and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. In conclusion, we argue that plasma ADMA levels are high in patients who have coronary artery disease (CAD) and ADMA is an independent risk factor for CAD.
