Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the relationship between job stress levels, physical activity status, and food choices of individuals working in the jewelry sector. The research was carried out with 230 participants employed in jewelry enterprises located in different districts of Istanbul. Data were collected using the Job Stress Scale, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire–Short Form (IPAQ-SF), the Food Choice Questionnaire, and 24-hour dietary recall records. According to the findings, all participants were found to have at least a moderate level of job stress, and none reported a low level of stress. A negative relationship was identified between physical activity level and job stress; participants who engaged in regular physical activity had lower stress levels. In addition, single participants were found to have higher physical activity levels compared to married participants, while sleep duration had a significant effect on job stress, indicating that insufficient sleep increased stress levels. With regard to food choices, negative associations were observed between job stress and carbohydrate and fiber intake, whereas positive associations were found between the health and natural content subscales and fiber intake. Gender differences were also noteworthy: health and natural content factors were more prominent among women, while mood and energy-related preferences were more evident among men. Age and BMI were also influential in food choices, with advancing age being associated with increased importance placed on ethical concerns and natural content. In conclusion, this study revealed strong associations between job stress, physical activity, and dietary behaviors among jewelry sector employees. The findings indicate that the implementation of job stress management strategies, the promotion of physical activity, and the encouragement of healthy food choices are essential for protecting employee health and improving quality of life.
