Abstract (EN)
It is thought that the burnout phenomenon and self-efficacy beliefs of music teachers affect their efficiency, motivation and success in the music teaching process. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between music teachers' burnout and their self-efficacy perceptions towards music teaching, and the relationship between music teachers' self-efficacy perceptions towards music teaching with the burnout variable and its sub-dimensions. The model of this descriptive research was determined as the relational survey model, one of the general survey models. The sample of the study consists of secondary and high school music teachers (n=241) working in the provinces of Nevşehir, Aksaray and Kayseri, located in the southern region of the Central Kızılırmak part of Central Anatolia, in the 2022-2023 academic year. "Personal Information Form" was used to determine the demographic information of the music teachers who answered the questionnaires on a voluntary basis, the "Burnout Scale" to determine their burnout status, and the "Self-efficacy for Music Teaching Scale" to determine their self-efficacy levels. Pearson Product Moments correlation analysis, regression analysis, independent samples t test and One-Way ANOVA analysis were performed on the data obtained in the research with the help of SPSS 20.0 program. When the results of the correlation analysis were examined, it was seen that self-efficacy towards music teaching was negatively and significantly correlated with burnout and its sub-dimensions. In this direction, linear regression analysis was performed to examine the contributions of self-efficacy in predicting burnout and its sub-dimensions. Regression analysis findings showed that self-efficacy variable predicted mental exhaustion by 9%, physical exhaustion by 7% and emotional exhaustion by 5%. In addition, when the relationships between the demographic characteristics of music teachers and the variables of mental, physical and emotional exhaustion were examined, there were significant differences in the variables of total burnout, emotional exhaustion and mental exhaustion in music teachers according to marital status and having a child, while the physical exhaustion variable did not show any of the variables discussed in this study. It was observed that it did not differ according to the demographic variable. In line with the results obtained from the study, it is recommended for researchers and educators to prepare activities to improve the self-efficacy of music teachers in order to intervene with their burnout and to provide intervention services to reduce the situations that will negatively affect the self-efficacy of music teachers.
