Abstract (EN)

Aims: The aim of this study was to examine the levels of depression, well-being, psychological resilience and quality of life of individuals who care for patients with Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) and their relationships with each other. Materals and Methods: The sample of the study consists of caregivers of 120 patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of sickle cell anemia in the Hematology Clinic of Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Hospital. Demographic data of patients and caregivers were recorded. "Sociodemographic Information Form", "Beck Depression Scale (BDS)", "Psychological Well-Being Scale (SPWB)", "Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA)", and "SF-36 Quality of Life Scale" were used as data collection tools in the study. Results: Caregivers were found to have moderate depression (median score 19). It was found that the psychological resilience of the caregivers was moderate (median score 34). It was found that there was a significant reduction in the quality of life of caregivers. It was found that when the depression levels of the caregivers increased, their views of psychological well-being (p<0,001) and psychological resilience decreased (p<0,001), and there was a deterioration in physical health and daily activities due to emotional problems (p<0,001). It was found that as the quality of life of caregivers increased, their psychological well-being levels increased (p<0,001). It was found that as the level of psychological well-being of the caregivers increased, they were able to perform physical activities more easily (p<0,001), their energy and vitality increased (p<0,001), their mental health status improved (p<0,001), and they believed that their health was perfect (p<0,001). Conclusion: It is seen that the depression levels of individuals who care for patients with SCA are moderately moderate. Negative changes experienced by caregivers during the caregiving process increase the burden of care and reduce the quality of life. It is seen that depression and quality of life affect the level of psychological well-being. Key words: Sickle cell anemia, caregiver, depression, quality of life, psychological well-being, psychological resilience
