The views of directors working in secondary school about guidance services

The porpose of this study is to determine the views of directors working in secondary school about guidance services. Therefor it is studied whether there is a significant difference in perception and evaluation of directors working in secondary schools about the applied guidance services according to variables such as the gender, seniority, university degree from which they graduate, school types in which they work, education level, the number of students, and type of task.48 official secondary schools in Diyarbakır city center in academic education year of 2011-2012 from the basis of the study. As the area of the study is restricted all items have been sampled. 44 of the 48 official secondary schools were reached. The data in the study was obtained with the scale which was formed by adding 3 open-ended questions to the data collection tool developed by Özdemir (2008). Data collection tool consist of twenty nine items and three open-ended questions. In the study to analyse the data T test, Anova, Frequency, Percentage, Arithmetic mean, the one way analysis of variance and Standart deviation were carried out and for the qualitative part content analysis was performed.At the end of the study it is observed that guidance services in the secondary schools are generally needed and served for students personal problems, school-course success and student problems. It is noticed that services given for issues like orientation, peer education and parent interviews are in lower level. It is determined that for the effectiveness of the guidance services a comprehensive service should be given both student-parent-administrator collaboration and in-service training. It is observed that there is no serious problem concerning services about this disciplinary problems. It is discovered that guidance services should be given for the issues like field selection-job presentation, school-family collaboration, in-service training and seminars.According to the one-way analysis of variance there is no significant difference detected in the views of directors working in secondary schools about the educational and personal guidance services according to variables such as the gender, seniority, university degree from which they graduated, school types in which they work. Educational level the number of students but a significant difference according to the task varriance was observed.Keywords: Secondary Education, Training Managers, Guidance Services.
