Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY Objectives:In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between care burden, anxiety and depression of the caregivers of the patients in the palliative care service with sociodemographic data and in terms of various aspects. Materials and Methods: The population of this cross-sectional study was the caregivers of the inpatients at the Palliative Care Center of the Dicle University School of Medicine. A total of 72 people, 39 women and 33 men, participated in the study. Sociodemographic data form consisting of 13 questions, Beck anxiety scale, Beck depression scale and Zarit care scale were applied to the participants. Results: Of the participants in our study, 39 (54,2%) were female and 33 (45,8%) were male. The mean score of the Zarit Care Burden Scale was 29,3±16,1, the mean score of the Beck Anxiety Scale was 11,9±8,0, and the mean score of the Beck Depression Scale was 12,7±9,2.In this study, the mean score of anxiety and depression was significantly higher in females than in males (p=0,039, p=0,009 respectively). The average score of anxiety and depression of unemployed caregivers is significantly higher than that of employed caregivers (p=0,037, p=0,011 respectively). As the age of caregivers increases, the average care burden increases significantly as well (p=0,003). Care burden was higher in female gender (p=0,577).As the level of education decreased, an increase in the care burden was seen (p=0,771). As the care burden of the participants increased, the mean scores of the anxiety and depression scales increased significantly (p=0,743, p=0,986, respectively). There was a positive correlation between anxiety scale, depression scale and zarit care burden scale (p=0,001, p=0,002, p=0,003 ve r=0,418, r=0,360, r=0,349). Conclusion:The age of the people who care for the patient and the low level of education increase the care burden. In addition, it was found in our study that the care burden was significantly higher at women or unemployed caregivers Therefore, the care burden of caregiver's should be taken intoconsideration when providing palliative care. Key words:Anxiety, Caregivers, Care burden, Depression, Palliative Care.
