Assessment of quality of life and care requirements in parkinson's patients the name of the student

Object: This study was planned to conduct adaptation effort of Unmet Needs of People with Parkinson's Disease Scale to Turkish to determine it is a valid and reliable assessment tool and to assess quality of life and care requirements of patients monitored with Parkinson's Disease diagnosis. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted between November 2020 and July 2021 on patients that had been monitored for a year at neurology polyclinic of a private hospital. In this methodological and descriptive study, sample group is composed of 160 patients on or above 35 years of age who were diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and who agreed to participate in the study. Internal consistency revealed Cronbach Alfa reliability coefficient as 0.904 for the entire scale. According to this value it was determined that the scale had high internal consistency and was appropriate to use with Turkish society. According to results of the study a statistically significant relationship was determined between physical needs, social/emotional needs, treatment needs that were sub-dimensions of unmet needs of Parkinson's patients scale and total scores received from PDQ39 Parkinson's Disease survey. It was determined that existence of unmet needs and their increase with advancing stages negatively affect quality of life for patients. Conclusion: Nurses must be aware of special difficulties and care needs of Parkinson's patients. Individual care and training patients and their families are suggested to increase quality of life and meet needs of Parkinson's patients.
