Abstract (EN)

This study was planned and conducted as a retrospective, cohort study to investigate stress, anxiety and quality of life in individuals who underwent radical cystectomy surgery. This study was carried out with the participation of 100 individuals who underwent radical cystectomy surgery in the last 5 years in the Urology Clinic of Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul. Data were collected with Personal Information Form (Appendix A), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) (Appendix B), Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI) (Appendix C), Multidimensional Quality of Life Scale (MDQLS) (Appendix D). Frequency tables and descriptive statistics were used to interpret the findings. "Mann-Whitney U" test (Z-table value), one of the nonparametric methods, was used for measurement values that were not suitable for normal distribution, and "Kruskal-Wallis H" test (χ2-table value) was used for the comparison of measurement values of three or more independent groups. Bonferroni correction was applied for the pairwise comparisons of variables with significant differences for three or more groups. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationship between two quantitative variables that do not have normal distribution. In this study, the mean age of the participants was 55.36±13.96 (years) and 32% of them were in the 55-64 age group. In the study, it was determined that 78% of the participants were male, 47% had an income equal to their expenses, 52% were high school graduates, 40% were employed, 95% had a history of surgery, 53% had chronic diseases, 60% did not feel better after RSA, 77% were unhappy with the RSA urostomy bag and 96% had difficulty in daily activities due to RSA. A negative, very weak/weak/weak/moderate and statistically significant correlation was found between the CPSRQ and the ASQ scores (r=0.611; <0.001). There was a negative, weak/moderate and statistically significant correlation between ESRQ and SAI (r=0,504, p<0,001). A positive, high and statistically significant correlation was found between HRQoL and ASQ (r=0,795, p<0,001). In the results of this study, psychiatric nurses should eliminate the negative psychological effects of stress and anxiety in individuals who have undergone radical cystectomy surgery, contribute to the development of therapeutic relationships with family and friends of individuals and create support programmes for this purpose. In addition, studies should be carried out to improve the quality of social life.
