Gastronomy as art and its connection with the visual arts

Admissibility of the artistic aspects of contemporary gastronomy, which lost importance quantitatively and gained qualitatively ; is increasing importance day by day in both Turkish cuisine and world dishes.The people progressing economically,technologically and in science do not prefer only feeding themselves but also having dishes that has an artistic purpose and satisfies the very spirit of the stomach.They prefer food and drink that has an artistic view. In the growing gastronomic culture, making use of visual arts, apart from the taste, the food can be acquired to have an artistic look.In this context, in this study,the research method is used with examples including scanned documents. The purpose of this study is to find out the artistic aspect of gastronomy, how they express themselves in art, in which branches of art it has relation with and what type of relation it has with the visual arts. While doing this, the work is inspired from the description of art and artistic aspect of gastronomy. It also has the concrete samples of these relations from the Turkish and the world cuisine. In this study consists of three parts, the first part is on the definition, features and the history of gastronomy. The second part is on the definition of art itself, types and properties of art and gastronomy as art. And the third part, the relation of gastronomy with art,sculpture and architecture, under the title of relation between gastronomy and visual arts is associated and the samples from Turkish and international cuisine are given. At the end of the thesis, there comes the conclusion part including some necessary suggestions. Key Words: Gastronomy, Art, Visual Arts
