Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of diarrhea on cardiac enzymes, some biochemical and hematological parameters in neonatal lambs. Serum DD, NTproBNP, cTnI, CK, CK-MB, AST and CRP concentrations, which are cardiac biomarker parameters, were measured by ELISA method in order to evaluate the cardiac aspects of newborn lambs with diarrhea. The animal material of this study consisted of 50 lambs with diarrhea between 0-28 days of age brought to Siirt Animal Health Practice and Research Hospital as the study group and 20 clinically healthy lambs in the same age range and negative for the causative agent with rapid diarrhea test kits as the control group. Among the factors detected in the stool with rapid test kits, Clostridium perfringens was found in 38%, Clostridium perfringens and Epsilon together in 22%, Cryptosporidium parvum in 16%, Clostridium perfringens and Cryptosporidium parvum together in 14%, and Epsilon toxin in 6%. In addition, it was observed that one of the two sick lambs with 3 factors occurring together had Clostridium perfringens, Cryptosporidium parvum and Epsilon toxin, while the other had a mixture of Clostridium perfringens, E. coli and Rotavirus. In the comparison between the control and patient groups in terms of hematologic examination, there was a significant (p<0,01, p<0,001) increase in WBC and MCHC values in the patient group compared to the control group. On the other hand, the differences in RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, PLT and PCT values between the control and patient groups were not statistically significant. Serum biochemical analysis of AST, CK, CK-MB, cTnI, D'Dimer and Nt-proBNP parameters showed no significant difference between the control and patient groups. However, CRP activities were significantly (p<0,05) higher in the patient group compared to the control group. In conclusion, although biochemical parameters were not found to be statistically significant in sick lambs except CRP, it is thought that the visible increase in sick lambs compared to healthy lambs is important in terms of revealing the presence of heart damage. In addition, as a result of the literature review, it was concluded that this study conducted in neonatal lambs with diarrhea may be important in terms of being a first in this sense and shedding light on future studies.
