Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the first appeal findings of children who diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Materials and Method: This study had been performed according to examination of 142 case, aged 0-18, that were first time diagnosed with DM type 1, who applied to emergency room and child endocrine polyclinic of child health and diseases department of Dicle university medical faculty between 2013-2016. Sociodemographic features, symptoms and laboratory findings of the patients were recorded from their files retrospectively. All of the acquired data were statistically analyzed. SPSS 23 software was used for data analysis. Findings: 62 of the children used for this research were females (%43.66), whereas 80 of them were males (%56.33) and average age of children were detected as 10,10±1,39. The blood sugar level was measured as 425,85±12,51 mg/dl, as HbA1c percentage was %13,57±3,77 at the moment of diagnosis. There was family history of DM type 1 at %18.3 of all children. Patients were diagnosed mostly at January with percentage of %12.68 followed by November with percentage of %11.97. %83.8 percent of the children had both polyuria and polydipsia, while, counciousness level change with %41.5, coma with %6.3 and weight loss with %10.5 were detected from children. A positive relation was detected between acidosis and age, urea, creatinine and potassium level of patients. Urine ketone values were detected 3 or 4+ at the %82 percent of children as %48 of Anti GAD values were positive that belong to the children. The pH values at % 76 percent of the patients were detected between 7,2-7,3. Results: The type 1 DM were mostly monitored at adolescent period. Since the most appeal symptoms of the disease were polyuria and polydipsia, the society must be educated that the poliyuria and polydipsia might be the symptom for type 1 DM. The HbA1c values were elevated and this situation might be associated with the features of the working zones of the patients that will be resulted with late diagnosis. Because of the significant correlation between the time to end acidosis and the values of urea and creatinine, It is crucial to monitor the kidney functions.
