Post-coup election propaganda in Turkish press (1961-1965)

In this study, the election propaganda of the political parties participating in the 1961 and 1965 elections in Turkey, the election laws affecting the 1961 and 1965 election process and their reflection on the press were investigated. Therefore choosing this research is that the elections were held under the leadership of the military administration after the May 27 coup. In the study, the election declarations of the parties, their rallies and the speeches of the parties were considered as the main propaganda material and how they were reflected in the press of the period was evaluated. With the coup d'état of May 27, 1960, the DP was taken from power and the management and administration of the country was in the hands of officers and until the date of the elections, the jurisdiction and executive powers were collected in the hands of the MBK. MBK, which wanted to create a new political order in the country, first prepared the 1961 Constitution and the electoral laws shaped around this Constitution were important for the 1961 and 1965 elections and included the rules regarding the conduct of the election campaign. On January 13, 1961, political party activities were allowed and the MBK wanted to control the election process with its meetings. The election struggle, which started with the emphasis on brotherhood and gradually left its place in an environment of discussion, and the country was governed by coalition governments after the majority of votes could not be achieved in the 15 October 1961 election results with 81.4% turnout. It participated in the 1965 elections more than in the 1961 elections. For this reason, the struggle between parties has been more. The most discussed topic of election propaganda has been participation in the TIP election, land reform, oil laws, and foreign policy. Consequently, the AP came to power in the elections with a turnout of 71,3%.
