Abstract (EN)

Music, the spiritual relationship between two tones as Neyzen Niyazi Sayın defines, has numerous forms. Turkish Music can be categorized into two groups: Sufi Music and Non-Sufi Music. "Perde kaldırma," a little-known form of Turkish Sufi Music, is usually ignored in the present literature due to the limited sources and lack of secondary studies. This thesis investigates the form of "perde kaldırma" and its types, the sphere of performance and examples in official records. It covers four chapters and three appendices. The first chapter is the introduction. It examines the etymology of the concept. The second chapter covers the concept of music and its forms in Turkish Music within the limits of the study. The third investigates the form and history of "perde kaldırma" and its recorded examples. The examples cover from 1959 to 2008. The fourth chapter analyzes the "perde kaldırma" records of Hafız Kemal Tezergil and Neyzen Sadrettin Özçimi, in detail. The final chapter is the conclusion. It emphasizes that this form improves the performance of the musicians, whether in solo or group. The thesis aims to contribute the current literature by presenting detailed examinations of the two cases and their comparative analyses, since the literature offers no secondary studies for the researchers.
