Abstract (EN)

This study aims to synthesize, from a systematic perspective, research conducted between 1980 and mid-2025 that examines the effects of national-culture dimensions on the structures and processes of organizational culture. Using a literature search protocol, fourteen quantitative field investigations, three meta-analyses, two theoretical model papers, and one large-scale case dataset—twenty high-quality studies in total—were selected, yielding a unique evidence pool that spans more than one hundred countries and over three hundred thousand individual observations. During coding, national culture was operationalized through the Hofstede, Schwartz, and GLOBE indices, whereas organizational culture was captured via the Cameron–Quinn, and related typologies; each finding was weighted according to methodological rigor. Results indicate that high power distance and high uncertainty avoidance predict hierarchy- and market-oriented cultures, whereas low power distance combined with high individualism predicts clan, adhocracy, and personal-responsibility emphases. Collectivism strengthens the "involvement" dimension and thereby contributes indirectly to financial performance; culture fit amplifies the link between knowledge sharing and innovative output; and charismatic, value-based leadership tends to enhance profitability, whereas participative leadership boosts employee commitment—contingent on the surrounding cultural context. The extant literature is geographically concentrated in Western Europe, North America, and Japan, with empirical evidence still scarce for Turkey, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Measurement-invariance limitations and the prevalence of cross-sectional designs constrain the generalizability of findings. Overall, the review demonstrates that national values and organizational norms interact reciprocally and at multiple levels, offering an integrated roadmap for culture-sensitive management practice and for future research agendas.
