Abstract (EN)

Smoking is the most important preventable problem of public health as it is the most rapidly spreading and the longest outbreak. The studies states that late adolescent period is the most hazardous period in terms of developing addiction and especially 15-24 ages is defined as risky group in term of developing addiction.This study was made to evaluate the self-efficacy and addiction level of university students according to their smoking.The study that is descriptive type was made in between September 2009-Jun 2010 in University of Bingöl. Totally 920 students who attend Bingöl Universty in 2009-2010 academic year consist of the universe of the study. The choice of sample wasn?t used in the study, the study completed with 765 students who were volunteer to join the study data was collected by using the form including socio-demographic data, self-efficacy scale, fagerstrom questionnaire.Evaluating data was made by descriptive tests in computer environment, t test, analysis of variance and analysis of correlation.The rate of students? smoking is 6,9 % among girls, 37,4 % among boys and it is totally 44,3 %.It was determined that place that they live, their fathers? education of smoking students idea quit smoking effect their self-efficacy level (p<0,05).It was determined that family type, marital status, fathers? education of non-smoking students effect their self-efficacy level (p<0,05).It was determined that students? gender, marital status, age that start smoking, the number of daily smoking, the length of smoking period, trial of quitting smoking, the period which smoke, willing to quit and believing in quitting effect addiction level (p<0,05).It was thought that it will be beneficial to educate students to increase self-efficacy with health professionals like nurses who can communicate with people closely in educational institution, health institution to decrease students smoking addiction.
