The investigation of primary school teachers views on the activities in science lessons in the process of distance education

The main purpose of this research is to examine the opinions of classroom teachers about the activities in the science course in the distance education process. For this purpose, the research was carried out with 100 classroom teachers who work in private and public schools in Konya and Şırnak provinces and who teach science in distance education. Qualitative research design was used in the research. A semi-structured interview form consisting of 15 questions was used to collect data. The obtained data were analyzed using the content analysis technique. According to the results obtained from the research, the distance education process was difficult for both teachers and students. In the research, it was concluded that the classroom teachers could not use many activities, experiments, laboratory studies, teaching methods and techniques and materials used in face-to-face education in the science course. It has been determined that there are infrastructure and technical problems in distance education, there are problems in internet connection, not all students can attend the live lesson, communication problems between teachers and students are also very common problems. Teachers stated that the advantage of distance education is the materials presented in the digital environment and spending more time with the family. However, it was stated by the teachers that distance education is very inadequate compared to face-to-face education. In the research, it was recommended to open make-up courses for students who could not attend distance education after the epidemic process, to provide training for teachers to be technology literate, and to establish a virtual laboratory platform. It is thought that the research can be expanded by using different sample groups and different research models.
