Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the Liman Han, Han 1772, and Beta Yeni Han structures were examined within the framework of sustainable architecture principles and their integration with technological sustainability. The analysis process was conducted under three main headings: preservation of natural conditions, urban design and land planning, and design for human health and comfort. Each repurposed inn was examined according to criteria determined by these principles, and thus, the inns' sustainability performance was demonstrated using the obtained data. The evaluation approach enabled this analysis by translating sustainable architecture principles found in academic literature into performance indicators. In this context, factors such as preservation of natural conditions, climatic compatibility with the building's location, and daylight efficiency were examined, as well as the inns' layout, environmental impacts, and connection to the urban fabric. Sub-headings of urban design and land planning criteria, including supporting mixed-use development and supporting public transportation and pedestrian access, were also examined. Within the scope of the thesis, interior comfort conditions were evaluated within the design dimension for human health and comfort. Based on the data obtained from the evaluations, criteria for technological sustainability were determined, and an evaluation system was developed. As a result of the analyses, the technological sustainability performance of these three reference inns was determined to be sufficient, inadequate, and capable of improvement. Based on the data obtained, technological sustainability-focused solutions were developed based on the needs. The proposed solutions aim to support energy efficiency, reduce costs, and be compatible with the surrounding environment. The output of the study is a technological sustainability model created by generalizing the recommendations developed specifically for the selected reference inns. This model provides a systematic framework that can be adapted to historical and modern buildings of all sizes. The developed technological sustainability recommendation system can be used as a checklist in repurposed projects. In conclusion, this technological sustainability recommendation system is presented as an important model from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The thesis study developed an innovative evaluation method by combining sustainability criteria found in the literature with the needs of the modern age.
